Nothing gets us more excited about the year ahead than all the new heart pumping wellness trends that will be coming our way. From ways to shake up your work out to new ways to fill your nourish bowl, our 2016 predictions are in! In the wide world of living actively, check out what we think will be huge this year…
the new kale
Ah, kale… one of our most beloved super foods. We blend it into our smoothies, bake it into chips and serve it in our salad… What’s not to love about its curly leaves and terrific taste? But, there’s a new kid on the superfood block, and he’s been around for a while too. It turns out, when it comes to a nutritious punch, watercress ranks at 100% nutrient density score compared to kale and other leafy vege at 49%. It’s the garnish that’s in fact the unrivalled champion in the greens department.
Move to feel better
The physical benefits of exercise have long been established and along with physicians everywhere, we encourage moving to be a part of everyone’s day to day. Another huge reason to get on the treadmill than getting the blood flowing toning that bod is feeling great. Exercise is an incredible tool for beating stress, anxiety and even depression. While we all have our different kinds of motivation for working out, don’t forget about your mental health this year.
Active every wear
It’s no secret that activewear is everywhere, exhibit A, exhibit B. From workout to weekend and coffee dates to the kids pick up – there’s nothing quite as functional than activewear, and it’s not showing any signs of going on hiatus. Each year as we start to get busier, our wardrobes reflect what we desire: chic, casual and comfortable. Voila – the ‘athleisure wear’ super trend was born (which is now recognised as an actual word in the Merriam Webster) and soon will be a part of every woman’s wardrobe. Check out our favourites.
Move over mason jar
The humble mason jar, here to serve you fresh smoothies, keep your overnight oats fresh and the perfect vessel for fermenting sauerkraut. It’s an active girl’s best accessory on the go. But have you ever thought, what’s next after the mason jar? What will healthnuts be sipping out of this year? Well, we’ve got a sneaky feeling beakers (yes, just like the ones you used in science class) are going to be bursting out to serve your fresh juices and superfood swills.
Obstacle course WORKOUTS
Don’t want to just get on the treadmill and sweat? Us either! Which is why we love all sorts of group workouts like Body Attack, Soul Cycle and Tough Mudder. This year, obstacle course training is where the experience factor is at. Who doesn’t want a memorable way to get their heart rate up?
bad sugars still off limits
If there’s anything That Sugar Film taught us in 2015, it’s that perceived healthy foods are not what they may sweetly seem. When Damon Gameau documented an experiment to eat only foods from the supermarket that were labelled and marketed as ‘healthy’ such as cereal bars, yogurts and juices – he quickly became very sick. The movement is inspiring thousands well into 2016 to check food labels and monitor high sugar intake.

Live stream workout video’s like ones from Booyah Fitness are the girl on the go’s best kept secret. Channel your unique work out style with the most accessible personal PT in 2016.
They had a moment last year and they’re not showing any signs of slowing down in 2016, superfood lattes sure are here to stay. Matcha definitely had the spotlight in 2015, here, here and here, but soon we think we will see turmeric in all its glory gracing us in latte’s as a little medicinal treat.
