If you’re on the hunt for a post-workout recipe, then this meal replacement smoothie is going to be your new bestie. As a matter of fact, it’s Lorna Jane Clarkson’s favourite. So if Lorna says it’s her go-to energising drink, then we’re totally on board with it too. Especially when summer is just around the corner, or perhaps it’s already here… it sure feels like it! Lately, all we’ve been craving is fresh, crunchy salads and sweet, refreshing smoothies.
Since the launch of Lorna’s second book MORE of the Fit Woman’s Secrets, we simply cannot get enough of this smoothie. True to its name, this sweet drink is a meal replacement in a glass, perfect to guzzle down post-workout. The chia seeds make this a really wholesome drink, with a bucketload of nourishment to boot – hello good fats, fibre and protein! Plus the berries pack a whole lot of antioxidant goodness, which is perfect for a clear, glowing complexion.
Ever experienced a “what to blend” dilemma? Well, you can always count on this simple yet delicious smoothie to satisfy your taste buds. Prepare it the night before so you can grab it out of the fridge and go, but not before you add some superfood sprinkles on top.
For a bit o’crunch, we love toasted quinoa or buckwheat, goji berries, coconut & chia seeds. Take it a step further and try a dollop of coconut yoghurt on top to balance the flavours. De-lish!
Lorna’s Fave Meal Replacement Smoothie
Total Time: 40 minutes
Servings: Serves 1-2
- 1 banana, peeled & chopped
- 1/2 cup frozen berries
- 1 cup rice milk (or almond milk)
- 1 tsp coconut oil
- 1 tbsp chia seeds
- place all ingredients, except chia seeds, into a high powered blender
- blend on high until smooth
- add the chia seeds and let smoothie sit for at least half an hour to let the seeds gelatinise
If you’re not a rice milk fan, you can always replace it with some almond milk if you prefer.
