Yep, you read that right – chocolate! In the lead up to the mostly chocolatey holiday of the year, we thought that it was a great time to let you know how to get the most out of your Easter treats. Have a nibble before your workout!
Scientific research studies have shown high quality dark chocolate to have amazing benefits. High in good fats, low in sugar, low carb and literally loaded with antioxidants – you don’t need any more reasons to not have chocolate before you hit the gym.
Why is dark chocolate so good?
And we mean anything above 70% cocoa. Not only does it boost our mood as it contains the mood-regulating hormone serotonin, cocoa has been shown to help improve our blood flow and act as an anti inflammatory. Perfect before we get moving!
We know before you guys head to the gym you probably have had a coffee or about to get one, so having some dark chocolate, rich in natural caffeine will help boost mental function and reduce fatigue.
Training on a full stomach
We have all done it once before. It’s a disaster! We don’t want to be going hard with a tummy full of bacon and eggs, but we also don’t like training with nothing! A few bite sized snacks of dark chocolate, will give you enough energy to get through your session with our rushing to the bathroom after.
Pre workout supplement
It’s hard to find a good quality, well priced, delicious pre workout snack, especially when the packets are full of words we don’t even understand. But chocolate? That’s easy. We even found a specific pre workout dark chocolate. Yep! It’s a thing. Peak Chocolate Active, not only is high quality dark chocolate, it also has supplements that aid in training, muscle growth and energy. Creatine, amino acids, Himalayan rock salts all bundled into 3 bite size bits – perfect to throw in your gym back or keep in the car.
If chocolate doesn’t make you happy then this isn’t for you. But for most of us, it makes us very happy (and healthy!) A recent study found that people who eat chocolate three times a month had a reduced risk of heart failure of 13%, compared to those who ate none. And as mentioned above, as an anti-inflammatory food, chocolate is linked to living longer. So, if it didn’t make you happy before, it should now!
Instead of spending hours searching the nutrition stores of chemical free pre workout supplements, or following your #fitspo on Instagram and just buying what they have. Next time try some dark chocolate (or, to level up try a superfood infused chocolate like Peak Chocolate) and start eating (and training) like the stars!
