We all strive for a life that’s balanced, right? But sometimes trying to cram everything in to your already bursting scheduele is harder than piecing one of those life size puzzle sets together. The truth is, we all have 1000 things to do, but the reality is that it’s impossible to do 1000 things. An effective and efficient list will at the very least make sure we tick off the right and most important agendas. If you’re already a list writer, kudos to you, but if your lists are even longer than your Lorna Jane wish list, something’s gotta’ give!
Keep calm and write a list
1.) Write it the night before
That way your tasks are fresh in your mind and hardest part is over. When you stroll into to work the next morning all rested and refreshed just as your long black starts to kicks in, instead of wasting that cherished morning energy faffing about trying to figure out where to start, you’re ready to hit the ground running.
2.) Prioritise by importance
List your tasks according to urgency; it will make everyone’s life that little bit easier. That way, when something pressing pops up unexpectedly (because life happens and everyone always want something now) it won’t cause too much drama and disruption and you’ll still be able to make it to your post work Pilates class.
3.) Keep it short and sweet
The secret to success is working smarter, not longer so keep your list short, sharp and succinct. By limiting your list to no more than 5 tasks per day, you’re more likely to finish the day feeling accomplished rather than defeated. Plus, if you power through your first 5 tasks, you can always write another one!
4.) Be specific
When your ‘to do’ list is vague, there’s a high chance you’ll end up squandering valuable time trying to figure out exactly what you meant when you wrote ‘write article’, so be as specific as you can. Instead, try writing ‘write article about working out in the morning and not being late for work’ (ps – you can read that one here). It’s all in the details.
