With February 14 just around the corner, all talk has turned to plans for the big day. But contrary to popular belief, Valentine’s Day is not a holiday that’s exclusively reserved for couples… Valentine’s Day is a celebration of love, and whether you get those stretchy heart feelz for a partner, a pet – or heck even for a pizza, sing it from the rooftops sista! So all the single ladies, put your hands up… because here are 15 things you can do to celebrate if you’re ridin’ solo.
The Single Girl’s Guide to Valentine’s Day
.) Go and see a movie alone, it’s weirdly liberating. Plus you won’t have to compromise on the genre OR share your popcorn.
.) Have a selfie session with your favourite furry companion (they won’t be precious about which filter you put on the money shot).
.) Cook yourself an extravagant dessert and eat it straight from the tin.
.)Binge watch your favourite series on Netflix until 2 in the morning without feeling remotely guilty about it.
.) Use the money you’re saving on dinner/gifts for your significant other and treat yo’self to something that will make you feel fabulous like a blow-dry or some new activewear (or Perth ladies, get yourself to the Perth Warehouse sale).
.) Move the furniture in your lounge room and learn the choreography to Beyoncé ‘Single Ladies’.
.) Invite your fellow single girlfriends over for cosmos and a Sex and the City marathon and decide which characters you each are.
.) Buy yourself a bunch of flowers that you actually like and upload them to instagram with the hashtag #blessed
.) Take your shrapnel to the supermarket post v-day and see how much cheap chocolate you can score on February 15.
.) Offer to babysit for your favourite couple while they go out for date night.
.) Download Tinder and remind yourself that despite how you might be feeling today, you’re not the only one who is single. Plus, you never know, your prince charming could be just one swipe away.
.) Throw a ‘galentines day’ dinner party with your #girlsquad, cook homemade pizzas (try this vegan + gluten free pizza) and exchange horrific first date stories while listening to Taylor Swift “We Are Never Getting Back Together” on repeat.
.) Go to the gym or hit the park and throw your everything into a satisfying sweat session… the endorphin high you’ll be riding on will be just as good (if not better) than the girl who got a delivery of long stemmed red roses.
.) Pimp your snapchat story with videos of you singing your favourite love ballads on slow-mo/speed up setting.
.) Wear your boldest and brightest red lipstick all.damn.day.
And if nothing else, be thankful for the fact that you don’t have to shave your legs, and you can spend an extra 10 minutes in bed (win).
