Q&A with Lorna Jane Clarkson for International Women’s Day

As a brand that’s dedicated to inspiring and empowering women, it should come as no surprise that International Women’s Day is one of the days that we look forward to celebrating the most at Lorna Jane. We count ourselves lucky to get to learn first-hand from one of the most inspiring women in business (and in life for that matter), and thought it was the perfect time to sit down and interview our leading lady and ultimate #girlboss Lorna Jane Clarkson!

As a woman who is a role model to so many, who do you look up to and why?

That’s a tough one! There are SO many women I look up to for so many different reasons, but the overarching quality in all of the women I consider role models is that they’re unashamedly and 100% authentic and true to who they are – they’re not caught up in worrying about trying to be like anyone else. Women like Oprah, Diane Von Furstenburg, Michelle Obama, my mum and of course so many of my incredible customers – are all women I consider role models.

How are you celebrating International Women’s Day this year?

I’m lucky enough to be in a position where I get to spend EVERY day surrounded by inspiring women, but this International Women’s Day I couldn’t be more thrilled to be celebrating with 800 young women at a local high school that I am visiting as part of our Active Living Schools Program. I also have Gabi Simpson and Gretel Tippett two amazing athletes from the Lorna Jane Queensland Firebirds joining me in an inspiring session with the next generation! And then of course, it’s back to the office to celebrate with my amazing team. I honestly couldn’t think of a better way to spend the day!

What message do you want to give all women today of all days?

The most important message I want to give to all women – not just on International Women’s Day but on all days – is to truly love and believe in yourself. I’ve always known that you can’t have a great relationship with anyone whether it’s a partner, a work college or even a family member, if you don’t first and foremost have a good relationship with yourself and I’m so passionate about trying to help all women cultivate a sense of self-love. You are the greatest investment you will ever make and the sooner women realize that and start to put themselves first, the better your whole life will become.
