MNB FAST 5 TIME!
Today, Lorna shares 5 foods that help will stop the flu in its tracks! So get ready to boost your immunity with these Fast 5 tips.
Let’s face it; we’re all ‘human’ and no matter how fit or healthy we think we are, most of us seem to get sick at least once a year – and usually it’s as the weather starts to turn cold!
With winter fast approaching I tend to shift my focus a little more towards looking after my immunity and start to look for certain foods that are higher in nutrients and scientifically proven to help kick those cold and flu bugs.
Here are a few of my fave’s:
WHOLE GRAINS;
They’re loaded with zinc, which is vital for maintaining a healthy immune system. Try whole grain pasta with tomato sauce or brown rice with veges.
BANANAS;
They contain Vitamin B6, which helps your body fight infection. Eat a banana sliced over whole grain bread and double your germ boosting power.
SWEET POTATOES;
They’re one of the best sources of beta-carotene which your body needs to make enough white blood cells to fight infection. Eat them baked or smashed. (Here are a few recipes to try)
CAYENNE PEPPER;
The active ingredient in this spice beats congestion by thinning the mucus in the nasal passages so you can breathe freely. Sprinkle on soup for added flavour or add a little to your morning lemon water.
GARLIC;
Allicin is one of the active components in freshly crushed garlic and it can zap viruses by blocking the enzymes that lead to infection. Use in salad dressings, pesto sauce or guacamole.
AND FINALLY….
Did you know that LAUGHING can boost your immune system by up to 40%!!
So spend more time with people that make you laugh to make sure you stay fit, healthy and cold free this winter
Love, Lorna xx
