We all envy those people that just seem to have it all together, the ones who somehow manage to workout, prepare breakfast AND lunch and still find time to make themselves look presentable for work… all before 8:30am. If mornings just aren’t your thing, there’s still time to turn it around, it’s all about preparation. Sure, it’s tempting to binge watch Netflix all night before you head to bed, but if you assign a little bit of time each night to prep for the following day, you’ll thank yourself later. Here are five things healthy people do before bed, you might even find you already practi
ce some of these rituals daily and are all things you might actually find enjoyable and often even relaxing!
1. have a cuppa
Now that it’s winter in the southern hemisphere, you’ve probably upped your cups of tea for the warmth and comfort factor alone, but did you know that a spot of tea at night also benefits your health? A cup of camomile, peppermint or cinnamon tea helps soothe the head and aids digestion before you hit the hay. Plus, these little herbal gems contain little to no caffeine, so you’ll still sleep soundly.
2. plan tomorrow’s breakfast
If you struggle with time management in the am, you should start planing your breakfast the night before. If you’re a creature of habit who doesn’t stray from your routine breakfast each day then you’re sorted, but if you would rather catch an extra few zzz’s, something like overnight oats are for you, because you can make them the night before and eat them on-the-go. We also love whipping up an Espresso Banana Smoothie, or a smoothie bowl if we are feeling fancy! Not only does a smoothie give you an energy hit, but it’s quick and simple to make and it will keep you full until lunch time rolls around.
3. moisture your skin
We all know how important it is to remove our makeup before bed in order for our skin to regenerate overnight, but moisturising before we hit the pillow is just as crucial during winter. In order to keep your skin hydrated and silky smooth, try moisturising with coconut oil or rose hip oil before bed. We even like to make our own body mist to keep our skin fresh all day and night.
4. lay out your active outfit
To avoid the temptation to hit snooze on those chilly mornings, lay out your activewear the night before. We suggest picking your outfit and putting it at the end of your bed or in a place where you’re guaranteed to see it as you wake up. Not only does this solve any potential wardrobe dilemmas you might face in the morning, but it also holds you accountable and makes you less likely to skip out of your morning workout. Nothing makes us feel guiltier than wasting a perfectly styled LJ outfit…
5. pack tomorrow’s lunch
We know it’s hard enough to make breakfast some mornings, let alone prepare your lunch for the day. Whether you simply pack some leftovers from dinner or prepare something quick and healthy like this poached chicken with pesto, you’ll save yourself a lot of time of a morning if you pack your lunch the night before. Not only will you be less stressed, you’ll also save yourself some pennies too, because you won’t have to eat out.
