Want to know about Madison and Tallara and what makes these energetic young women more than ‘just yogis’? heart
Meet Madison and Tallara…
Who are you?
We are Madi and Tallara – the Acro_Yoga_Twins (on instagram)
Although we are average teenage twins in Year 11, our passion in moving through Acro Yoga and handstands has led us into an exciting career. We have competed for NSW in acrobatics and we are coaches at AcroGym where we used to train. We are also doing some very cool inspiring work at our favourite work space, the beach, as the @Acro_Yoga_Twins. So, we are ready to take on the world!
What do people define you as?
Madi–“I’m the older twin”
Tallara–“She never lets me forget it”
People define us as twins so there is often an assumption that we are the same or even similar but when you get to know us, you quickly find that we are very different in almost every way. We are like yin and yang, it’s our individual strengths and the contrasts between us that bring out the best in each other and make us who we are.
We are also defined by our love of acrobatics as we are always upside down and for our new found love of Acro Yoga.
What else do you want the world to know about you?
When we are facing the right way up, we enjoy waterskiing and wakeboarding. We have grown up in a waterskiing mad family so it has been all water and speed boats since we could stand up.
We are blessed to live near the beach and a huge motivator for exercising and doing our thing is the beautiful Australian beaches we get to visit. We also love to swim and had the most amazing experience last year swimming with whale sharks.
Where do you find your daily inspiration?
We find a lot of our inspiration through various fitness accounts and other amazing people on social media. Hand balancing, Acro Yoga and flexibility accounts give us motivation to achieve new goals.
Because our strengths are so varied and we really need to work together to create our flows and shapes, we are inspired by each other on a daily basis, we get determined to achieve skills/goals both individually and together.
We are inspired to keep our @acro_yoga_twins account active and share our journey with our followers. By inspiring others, we inspire ourselves.
What message do you want to send to other women?
Don’t let others tell you that you can’t. And, always believe in yourself. It’s so easy to get caught up in the limitations that others set for you, but what gets us through is how far we have come when we believed in ourselves and achieved beyond what was expected of us.
When did you decide to seek change?
Acrobatics was and always will be one of our passions, but last year we decided that we were ready to stop competing but we wanted to continue learning and mastering new acrobatic skills. That’s when we discovered Acro Yoga. Acro Yoga was a new challenge for us, it allowed us to continue learning acrobatic skills but also taught us the importance of slowing down, breathing and being mindful.
How did you begin?
We were born 10 weeks prematurely and our parents decided to put us in gymnastics when we were 2 years old to help with the development of our gross motor skills and coordination. This led us on our path.
We enjoyed gymnastics for 8 years and then moved into Acrobatics where we trained for another 6 years, competing and moving in a coaching role. We loved being upside down and working in groups in acrobatics, so when we stumbled across Acro Yoga it felt like a natural progression.
When you feel like you’re falling behind what do you tell yourself?
Madi – Just breathe, I remind myself of what I have achieved already and that I will get there.
Tallara – Just relax, I’ve got this.
We are lucky to have each other for support and motivation.
We make a list of our goals for each day so we can stay on top of everything, but our other daily focus is on breathing and mindfulness, to help it all flow.
What is your more than____?
We are more than just teenagers, we are strong, young women determined to follow our passion and inspire others to so the same. Age has no boundaries. We believe that everyone, no matter what their age, has the ability to create a life that they love.
How do you Move, Nourish, Believe daily?
Move – Acro Yoga skills and sequences. We walk on our hands all the time, are always on our handstand bars and we do a lot of stretching.
Nourish – We make wholesome, mainly vegetarian meals and snacks. We start our day with fruit smoothies, drink lots of water and eat a lot of avocado.
Believe – We believe that you should never stop trying to be better than you were yesterday.
What is your favourite quote?
“A bird sitting on a tree is never afraid of the branch breaking because its trust is not on the branch but on its own wings. Always believe in yourself.” Author unknown
What does being a woman mean to you?
That we are limitless. It doesn’t matter how young we are, it’s our passion and commitment that will allow us to achieve our dreams and goals.
What does success mean to you?
Success to us means achieving our goals and always progressing both physically and mentally.
What do you love about yourself?
Madi – Definitely my quirky sense of humour, it gets me (and Tallara) through the tricky times and helps me bounce through almost anything.
Tallara – My zen. I have a very chilled and relaxed approach to life and most things. I work really hard and I don’t sweat the small stuff.
How does Lorna Jane make you feel?
Lorna Jane makes us feel confident, comfortable and motivated. When we look good and we are comfortable we can achieve great things.
