It’s no secret that we love yoga here at Lorna Jane and MNB. So, for something a little different we thought that we would get an insight into what a ‘day in the life’ of a yogi looks like.
We caught up with yogi, author, blogger and self-confessed ‘smiler’ and ‘lover of life’ Emily-Clare Hill. Emily-Clare is the co-founder of Mudra Yoga Studio in London and runs workshops and events in abundance.
Emily-Clare gave us an insight into what a day in the life of a yoga studio owner looks like.
Meet life-lover, yogi & business owner, Emily-Clare Hill
HOW WOULD YOUR FRIENDS AND FAMILY DESCRIBE YOU IN 3 WORDS?
Ha ha , How do I hope they describe me…well;
Independent, Creative, Free Spirit
WHAT DOES A ‘DAY IN THE LIFE’ OF LOOK LIKE?
One of the things I love about my life is that every day is different, so I’ll give an example…
I wake reluctantly to my alarm (there’s a perception of yogis rising early, I’m not one of those yogis.) I make tea… my morning tea is a very happy moment. I walk my dog, cycle to the studio, practice yoga myself, make a teaching plan and teach. I then go to a café and work from my computer for a few hours – there’s a lot of yogi admin as you’re every aspect of your business, also I have the studio and my teacher trainings which adds to the load. I then perhaps go to teach private client, I meet a friend for coffee and a catch-up, I have a meeting, I come back and walk the dog again, I chill and have a relaxing bath before heading to teach an evening class.
WHAT DOES ‘WELLNESS’ MEAN TO YOU?
Wholeness of self. Not just the obvious like mental, physical health with diet and movement, but also things like feeding the mind and the soul with goodness and life skills.
WHAT BROUGHT YOU TO YOGA? WHEN DID YOU START PRACTISING?
I began practicing when I was 18 and studying at uni, I loved the movement but was intrigued by the philosophy. It was a way of life that was so open and new to me. A philosophy that said ‘you be you’…I was hooked!
WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT YOGA?
Everything! I’m steadily getting strength in my practice so that I become one with yoga in every way and I’m not separate from the practice of it.
WHAT IS THE MOST CHALLENGING POSE FOR YOU AND WHY?
It’s a funny one, it totally depends on my mood. Sometimes simple stillness is the biggest challenge, sometimes balancing.
WHO INSPIRES YOU AND WHY?
I find inspiration in everything. I like to live what I call close to the surface – I’m inspired by all my friends, my people, my teachers – not just one person really.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE FOOD?
I love food, and I love finding new foods in different cultures. But I am a real chocolate girl.
WHAT ARE YOU READING AT THE MOMENT?
I like to read a fun fiction book alongside a philosophy or life skill like book. I’m currently reading Mating in Captivity by Esther Perell.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE MANTRA?
Once you stop learning, you stop living.
WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO BE KNOWN FOR?
A life lover, someone who is fearlessly happy to step in and see what could be!
