Meet Kylie Camps. Mother, Sleep Consultant and Happiness Advocate….
Who are you?
I’m Kylie Camps, a sleep consultant, parenting influencer and owner of parenting company the sleep mama. I am a wife, I am a Mum and a happy human.
What do people define you as?
I think people would define me as a Mum. Which is okay with me, I don’t find it offensive to be put in the Mum box because I know there is so much more to me than that.
What else do you want the world to know about you?
People often assume I was raised in the same way that we raise the boys, but I wasn’t. I’m really passionate about how we parent and the way we treat our kids, including being respectful of their feelings. I was definitely raised in a house filled with love and two parents who really cared for us, but I was smacked, I was made to bite on soap, I was called names. These are things that I would never do as a parent and I think it’s powerful for every parent to understand that the way they were raised doesn’t need to be repeated or define the way they parent their own children.
Where do you find your daily inspiration?
I love to learn, think and grow. I really enjoy listening to Ted Talks and podcasts on different topics, this helps me feel inspired. My boys and my husband also provide a good dose of inspo each day! Having kids means you are a role model, and I take that seriously! I want to pave the way for the boys when it comes to chasing dreams and being happy.
What message do you want to send to other women?
Happiness is a daily practice and self-care is not selfish. Taking the time each day to cultivate a little happiness for yourself has a huge flow on effect. The more you give to yourself, the more you can give to others.
When did you decide to seek change?
After living though sleep deprivation and turning it around I knew how much easier life was when we were all well rested. I felt compelled to help families sleep well and understand their babies and toddlers in a more effective way.
How did you begin?
I completed my sleep consultant certification, volunteered hours and hours of time, spent 12 months working with a variety of families intensely. I then decided we had to make this help available for families wherever and whenever they needed it. So, I started working on the online programs, it was a massive task. I knew I would only be happy releasing programs if I believed they would be better than an in-home consultation. With a lot of work, we did it! We created programs that I believe are a truly life changing resource. They include video tutorials, unlimited support and easy to understand information in a book you can save to your smart phone, computer or print off and bind to keep on hand.
When you feel like you’re falling behind what do you tell yourself?
if you can slow down and take a step back you can always find a lesson in a challenge. I think reflection helps also, if you reflect on passed losses and hard times you will see they happened for a reason, perhaps to guide you towards something better. Trusting the process is a big one and reflection gives you the perspective to trust that it will be okay.
What is your morethan____?
I am more than a mother. Being a Mum is truly a gift and my boys are the most important thing to me, but I’m more than a Mum. I have my own identity, which I think is really powerful because if I didn’t, it would be a lot of pressure on the boys to be my source of everything.
How do you move, nourish, believe daily?
Each day I MNB on purpose. The kids and I always get out for a walk or bike ride, and if I can I’ll get to the gym. Playing is our biggest source of movement, I’m always chasing after the boys, climbing playgrounds and playing their latest games.
Nourishing is so important to me, I choose foods based on how they make me feel! It makes it so much easier to choose good foods, because I need to feel good to manage all of the things that we have going on.
Believing is second nature to me now, since going through a dark time over ten years ago I have worked hard to refine my internal dialogue to ensure it serves me. I’m very aware of the power of my soundtrack!
What is your favourite quote?
Success is the sum of small efforts repeated day in and day out.
What do you want to be remembered for?
For making a difference
What does being a woman mean to you?
Being a woman means taking control of my own life and surrendering when need be. It means living with purpose and passion. It means embracing my feminine energy but not letting that define me or dull my drive.
What does success mean to you?
My definition of success changes regularly, right now success is raising the boys the way we want too and helping as many families as we can. It’s important to redefine success for different stages of your life.
What do you love about yourself?
I love that I invest my time and energy into learning about important areas of life and I love that I’m not afraid of what other people think.
How does Lorna Jane make you feel?
Empowered and ready to take on the day.
Can you describe yourself in one word?
Committed.
Who is your role model?
I have so many! There are so many incredible humans that I look to for inspiration in all different areas of life.
For building an empire it would definitely me Lorna Clarkson, for living a full life it would be my grandma who at 76 is the busiest and most passionate about her interests. My Nanna is also a role model for her endless love for her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
My husband is another role model for me, he is incredibly focused and dedicated when need be. He is the best partner to do life with, never any ego. Always love.
