If you’re in need of some serious #fitspo look no further than Diana Johnson and Felicia Oreb aka The Base Body Babes. Maintaining a focus on strength and circuit resistance style training, these seriously strong Sporty Sisters (and biological sisters) have spent years developing and fine tuning their method ‘Strength System’ that guarantees results… one scroll through their Instagram account and you’ll know what we’re talking about! Their goal is simple; to inspire and motivate women to be as fit, healthy and confident as possible by training hard and eating nourishing foods to stay in shape for life!
Sharing a similar philosophy, we thought they were the perfect candidates to reveal some of their favourite workouts in the October issue of our Active Living Magazine! But these enthusiastic sisters are about so much more than just exercise and are passionate advocates for Active Living – moving, nourishing and believing every single day! Here’s a sneak peek at some of their daily rituals.
Boost your energy
The explosive movements in this workout will wake up your nervous system and keep you feeling energised for the entire day.
- 15 x box jumps
- 20 x kettle bell swings
- Stair sprints – be explosive!
Perform all exercises back-to-back with a 90-second rest and start again. Repeat circuit 4-6 times.
What does your day on a plate look like?
Diana: A typical breakfast for me consists of two to three poached eggs on a bed of fresh baby spinach with some avocado mash. I love brekkie; it’s definitely my favourite meal for the day.
Felicia: A smoothie with our favourite Bare Blends Whey Protein Isolate, frozen fruit and C Coconut Water with a delicious nutty topping is my go to brekkie. I’m forever experimenting with different flavour combinations.
We usually do a little swap here….
Diana: A protein packed smoothie with Bare Blends Whey Protein Isolate is my mid morning snack.
Felicia: I usually eat two boiled eggs with some sauerkraut, baby spinach, grape vine tomatoes and any fresh green veggies I have in the fridge.
Diana & Felicia: Lunch is always a combination of some kind of protein and fresh veggies. Fish is our preferred choice of protein. We are both quite particular about the foods we put into our bodies. We don’t eat gluten or any refined sugar and keep dairy to a minimum. We believe in eating a well balanced diet filled with healthy and nutritious whole foods and we try to eat as organically as possible everyday of our lives. We try and eat a spoonful of Sauerkraut with most meals to help maintain good gut health, which we believe is so important for optimal health and wellbeing.
Diana & Felicia: This is definitely the most chaotic time of our day and we are both generally on the road at this time, so we always pop into our favourite Orchard Street Juice store in Bronte to grab a juice. This has been our latest addiction! They’re organic, cold pressed juices and come in an array of delicious and super nutritious flavours. Felicia’s fave is “Green Meadow” while Diana enjoys the “Green Garden”. We both add a handful of activated nuts for some extra protein.
Diana: Meal prep is essential for me as it ensures that I always have something quick and easy to eat when I get home in the evening from a late finish at work. I always have some freshly steamed veggies and a source of protein waiting for me in my fridge. I am addicted to grilled chicken and baked sweet potato at the moment. Sweet potato baked in the oven with a drizzle of coconut oil and a sprinkle of cinnamon is just delicious.
Felicia: I run a tight ship in my household and feed one hungry elite athlete and my little one multiple times per day. My hubby loves his protein so most dinners are a rotation of chicken, red meat or fish with loads of veggies. I spend a lot of time in the kitchen which I love. Preparing freshly cooked meals for my family and I is a definite priority in my life, we rarely go out to eat. There is nothing like a good hearty meal that you have prepared yourself.
What’s your favourite way to fuel your body pre workout?
Diana: Besides always eating like a king for breakfast, my second fave way to fuel my body pre-workout is with a freshly roasted long black! This acts as my pre-workout by increasing my workout capacity and performance. In addition to this, a bottle of water is always on hand and some good beats! This is not only my fuel for my pre-workout but my mental fuel too.
Felicia: We both do not believe in taking any pre-workout supplements or doing anything extreme pre or post-workout. We always eat something before we hit the gym to ensure we have good energy levels so we can have a great workout.
We are on a journey to share our knowledge and expertise with women all over the world to help them Build their Ultimate Base Body and help them look and feel their best from the inside out. We believe in our system and have had great results with it for ourselves and our babes. It is our absolute passion to inspire, motivate and educate women on how to workout, eat healthily, get in shape and most importantly maintain it for life.
