Here on MNB’s ‘Meet Your Trainer’ series, we’ll introduce your trainers each month so you can get to know a little more about them.
How long have you been a trainer?
I made the jump from the front row of the Body Attack class to the stage in 2014 and have never looked back.
As the passion exploded, I also trained as a Grit Plyo, Cardio and Strength instructor (the ultimate HIIT class!). This also introduced me to a Crossfit style of training. My box in Brisbane is where you’ll find me spending any spare moment trying to add a few kilos on my Olympic lifts, perfect my muscle up or set myself an obscene amount of pullups to complete unbroken.
What inspired you to become a trainer?
I love the sweat life and our community. I always wanted to be a part of seeing it grow!
What do you love most about what you do?
What’s better than the endorphins, post a brutal work out!
I love that moment, two minutes from the end, when you’re sweating, hurting and burning with your buddy next to you!
For me, it’s also about becoming smarter with my own training and nutrition. Learning about my own body and what makes it tick, what a blessing to share this with others!
What excites you the most about the Active Living Program?
As founder of the @take24project, my dream is to see everyone take time out of each day to invest in themselves, their health and fitness.
With the Active Living Program, it’s all there at your finger tips! I’m excited to share in the journey with everyone in the ALP Community and meet fellow sweaters from around the world!
By day I’m a TV news reporter!
I’ve worked for some of the countries major news bulletins (Nine, 7 & ABC) and even had my first meeting with Lorna Jane (where I feel in love with the boss lady!) during an interview for a news story.
Favourite post workout snack:
I often get my workout in early morning and my body loves carbs post training. My favourite breaky is a large long black and my DIY oats with cinnamon, berries and almond milk (and a sneaky little half tsp of peanut butter).
Favourite workout tunes:
I’ll admit – when I’m in the hurt locker – I often tune out the music. On a long run, I don’t even take my phone preferring to soak it all in, listen to my breathing and the sound of my feet.
In the gym, I love a bit of old school hip hop and my girl Ellie Goulding on loop.
Go to motivation: (how do you stay motivated when times are tough)
I’m often time poor and don’t get as much time to train as I’d like to!
Whenever I’m at the gym and lacking motivation, I think of all times I’ve wanted to be here but couldn’t make it. I think of those who can’t work out – whether that’s due to injury or health – and I channel the fact I’m blessed to be here, and blessed to be able to move my body.
How do you Move?
I’m on a strength pursuit at the moment so I usually spilt my training in three parts.
I start with lifting (usually a LOT of squats) with a gymnastic skill component in there. I’m addicted to the sweat life, so I usually finish the session with a WOD (workout of the day) that’s short, hard and fast to get my heart rate up.
I usually train five to six days a week and always take a full rest day, where I might do yoga or go for a big walk with my beloved partner and dog, Arnie.
How do you Nourish?
I try to eat a balanced diet of real foods. I’m not a fan of ‘dieting’ or restricting ANYTHING as it has lead to an unhealthy relationship with food in the past.
I now count my macros to compliment my training but am convinced it’s all about everything in moderation!
How do you Believe?
My Mumma always instilled in me a strong send of self from a very young age. Self-confidence is the best feature we can possess and there’s no-one who can ‘do you’ better than YOU!
I’m blessed to be loved, alive, healthy and able to move. This is an affirmation I remind myself of everyday.
