It’s nearly… Active Nation Day!!
Yes, Sunday 30th September is Active Nation Day, a day when we all take a moment to prioritise our health and wellbeing by getting active.
We’re blown away that since starting back in 2012 with one event here in Brisbane Australia, the Active Nation Day MOVEment has gone global!
Last year there were events in more than 16 countries and we’ve had more than 2.2 million people join us in our mission for a fitter future.
This year we want to reach EVERYONE!
So… WE – NEED – YOU!
We’re calling on you – we want you to get active on Active Nation Day and to get as many people involved as possible!
39% of the adult population are overweight or obese
The average adult spends 1/3 of their day in front of a screen (that’s longer than we sleep!)
1 in 2 women are not meeting minimum exercise requirements
Preventable “lifestyle” disease rates continue to soar, despite an increased focus on health
Even though access to health and wellness information, education and resources are more readily available than ever before, rates of preventable disease and obesity continue to rise at an alarming rate.
We need to do something, we need to take action for the sake of our own health as well as our friends, family and community.
Whether you’re just starting out on your path to better health or you’re a fitness queen, getting involved in Active Nation Day shows that you’re committed to a fitter future.
This year, in our mission to reach as many people as possible, we simply want you to pull on your favourite Activewear and get moving with as many people as possible. That’s it!
Just take a little time out of your day to be active and prioritise your health and wellbeing. By involving your family, friends, neighbours, work pals and/or gym buddies, not only is it more fun, you’re also proving how easy it is to be more active and healthy.
It doesn’t matter where you are, who you’re with or what you choose to do – let’s get active on Active Nation Day
3 Tips For Getting Active on Active Nation Day
Simple! Wearing your Activewear actually motivates you to be more active. It’s true, science says so!
Like that feeling of confidence you get when you wear your ‘power suit’ or your favourite little black dress, wearing Activewear literally gives you the motivation you need to be active.
A scientific study into the phenomenon refers to is as ‘enclothed cognition’ and discusses how the type of clothes you wear has a psychological impact on you and influences how you feel about yourself, your behaviour and your actions.
Simply put, to feel more motivated to workout, wear Activewear.
“It’s the little things we do every day that make the biggest difference. It’s not about going to extremes and spending hours at the gym– because I certainly don’t! It comes down to choosing to be more active in your day and wearing your Activewear makes it easier to do that!”
Start the day with a walk to boost your energy and mood for the day! Plus, your exercise quota is met before lunch – bonus!
Rally the family and your neighbours together and head out on a nice walk around the neighbourhood, to the local park for a game of <insert your family’s fave game here> or through a beautiful bushland or along the waterfront.
You also get to spend some quality time chatting and catching up! When you’re done, that delicious brunch will taste so much better ????
And don’t forget to bring your pooch ???? xx
Stretch It Out
If you’re looking for more of a chilled way to move and reconnect your body and mind (as well as stretch out any niggles), grab your yoga mat, some delicious snacks (recipes here) and your besties for a stretch sesh.
Yoga is a great way to be active because it is suitable for ALL ages and fitness levels and has so many health benefits for both your body and mind.
- Builds strength
- Increases mobility, flexibility, stability and balance
- Strengthens and protects your spine, bones and joints
- Supports your immune, nervous, digestive and systems as well as lymphatic drainage and circulation
- Increases sense of self, self esteem, mindfulness, self love and confidence
- Improves posture and lowers blood pressure
And that’s just to name a few!
It also helps you to bring your focus inward to yourself and your own practice, rather that to compete and compare yourself to others.
It can also be great fun! Especially if you’re practicing with people who make you laugh and bring you joy!
