Looking for something to eat after a workout, or to easily grab as an afternoon snack? Look no further than this post workout power bar recipe! These little babies are super simple to create, and packed full of protein, essential nutrients, and good fats. The combined flavours of the vanilla and coconut really make this recipe to die for, as despite only being made from ultra nourishing ingredients, it tastes more like a naughty treat than a healthy snack.
The beauty about these, however, is that you can swap around, and add to the recipe as you wish. You don’t have cashews but you have macadamias and almonds? No problem, just simply swap the cashews with the same proportion of whatever nuts you have in the pantry!
Love goji berries? Chuck them in too! Play around with the ingredients, keeping in mind that the base of the bar is made from 1-part dates to 3-parts nuts, and the decadent flavour is from the vanilla and coconut.
Gather your supercharged ingredients – these will be the nourishing nutrients to create your power bar!
Store nuts in the freezer. As we know, nuts are quite high in unsaturated fats, which are quite volatile. So to prevent these fats from becoming rancid and harmful to health, we need to keep them as fresh as possible. Freezing prolongs this process. Always try to buy raw, fresh nuts and if you are able, check for rancidity by smelling them. Rancid nuts smell very different to fresh, with some describing the smell as ‘sour’ or ‘chemical-like’. The fat in rancid nuts is similar to trans fats in that it exposes the body to free radicals, which produce a huge amount of damage to the body.
