Nourishing the body and the soul is fundamental to living a healthy and balanced life. Nourishing is something that should be practiced every day and is essential in keeping our health, vitality and peace intact. The idea of nourishing can be so easily over-complicated or just all together forgotten about and overlooked. To nourish is to do the little things in life that make you happy. Nourishing warms the soul and breathes life into us. Take five and tune into the five beneficial ways to nourishment.
-Nourishment for the mind-
“If you can smile at the faults of yourself, you can smile at the faults of others”
When we catch ourselves over analysing someone, picking them apart with what we perceive as “faults”, which let’s be honest, all women are guilty of at some point in their life. This criticism can actually be a true reflection of what’s happening in our own lives and what is seeded deep within our heart. And whatever it is that is making us think degrading thoughts, is always revealed through expressions, words and actions. To stop these wicked thoughts, elimination of pulling out the negatives in people and situations is a must. So now, when you catch yourself passing criticism toward others or even self, immediately stop your train of thought and silently say “next,” and replace it with a positive comment. Great tools to use in taking control of your negative thoughts are meditating, exercising, reading and writing. Get on board in nipping destructive thinking in the bud and kick the negativity to the curb with positive thinking!
-Nourishing to flourish-
“You are what you eat!”
One of the most important things to know about nourishing your body is to avoid deprivation, and for a lot of us this includes important vitamins and nutrients. Be smart and educate yourself daily on what food you are putting into your body. Because whatever you allow to enter your system will sooner or later have an effect on not only your moods and perceptions of life but your overall health. Have you figured out what agrees with you? If not… do you sometimes not feel like yourself after you eat certain foods? If so, the greatest way to nourish and flourish is to go back-to-basics. This means keeping it simple. There are no tricks or shortcuts; it is all about eating wholesome nutritious food. Steer clear of the packaged foods, and embrace the fresh philosophy. The key is learning to read between the lines and making the decision to replenish your body from the inside out with simplicity. It deserves nothing less.
-Nourishment for the spirit-
“Give thanks for the simple things in life and take time to laugh, for it is the music of the soul”
The essence of keeping oneself happy is by doing what is right for the spirit. Creating realistic daily affirmations is a very beautiful and beneficial tool in keeping that spirit of yours happy. Surround yourself with the affirmations that speak to you the most, so you can manifest and be reminded of your wants, dreams and desires. Oh, and don’t stop there…you deserve more than just that! Each day, make the attempt to give yourself compliments and words of support. Of course you might feel uncomfortable doing so at first, but over time it can become second nature if you take the practice seriously, telling yourself that you are worthy, intelligent, caring, compassionate and are doing the best you can at this life. Appreciation of self is something so rare to come by, but how much more beautiful does a woman appear when she is confident and humble in the way she carries herself? Stop punishing yourself, and practice some self-love for the soul.
-Nourishment for the body-
“Everyone goes through the meadow but only few see the flowers”
How happy are those who do not lose a childlike heart, for they carry something so pure and untainted by the ways they view the world. Viewing the world from the eyes of a child is an inspiring thing… they are so innocent and pure without a care in the world. They hold no prejudice, they laugh and play and have bounds of love to give. In fact, we could learn a lot from them, especially in the way we value ourselves. When did we start to doubt the most phenomenal creation we carry, the body? Let’s face it, it is human nature to compare, but to what extent? It is normal to admire others but it is not healthy to want to be another person. Each one of us are our own unique masterpiece, and admittedly at times, it can be difficult to see ourselves as an individual piece of art, when the world is constantly telling us that “we need to be this” and “we need to be that”. The ultimate nourishment of the body is learning the art of being content with what you were born with, so quit the self-loathing, and start to treasure yourself.
-Nourishment for Pleasure-
“Understand that your outer life reflects your inner heart and mind”
What excites you? Makes you laugh or smile? When is the last time you “played”? You might not be accustomed to rewarding yourself for your accomplishments— big or small, but it is a must to take time out for pleasures. Have you ever thought of making an effort to date yourself? It might sound crazy but it really isn’t such a silly concept. As women, we can get caught up giving, giving, giving but forgetting to take the time to receive. Your date time for self can be anything that brings joy to your spirit like going to the new restaurant you have been dying to check out; waking up before the sun to watch it rise while writing your thoughts and emotions in a diary; taking yourself to the movies; or buying that new outfit you have been eying for weeks. If you are already on this program, rewarding yourself can simply be a reflection of telling yourself you’ve done a good job and setting new goals to achieve.
What steps will you take to add some nourishment into your life? Big or small changes, it doesn’t matter! The idea is to understand just how special you are, and to take the time to nourish your mind, body and soul.
