Training hard and not seeing results at the gym? There could be 1 major reason why… form. (So those mirrors at the gym are for more than selfies and checking out your latest cute Activewear – I knew it!)
We caught up with Adala from ZADI fitness to find out why we need to focus on form to get the results we want.
There are many layers to a great exercise program. The standard FITT (Frequency, Intensity, Time & Type) principle is a great foundation. This dictates how long you train, how fast you train and how heavy you lift. They’re all equally important and will hugely impact your end result.
But even great exercise programs can fall very short if you’re not performing the movements with correct alignment.
Exercising with good form (being mindful of correct posture and alignment) will not only minimise the risk of injury associated with physical activity and improve the way you move, it will impact your results.
Correct alignment is key to a great workout.
Are you performing squats, lunges and deadlifts, seeing results in the muscle tone in your legs but not much progress has been made in the booty department? This is very common and is related to incorrect knee alignment and stance when performing these movements. These factors affect muscle engagement whilst being performed.
For example our deadlifts could look the part, but some key muscles that we need to engage to perform them such as glutes, may not come to the party due to your positioning and alignment.
Put simply, you could be going through the motions by paying attention only to the type of exercise, time, speed and load in each session and not your form or alignment.
So, if you’re spending hours training at the gym for that peach butt and six pack and not seeing results, start focusing on laying down some solid foundations and learn how best to align your body whilst performing your routines. I highly recommend investing some time and money towards getting advice and guidance from an expert and not just DIY.
