Healthy City Guide – Sydney

 

Sydney! This city is beautiful. It’s located on one of the most picturesque harbours in the world and has plenty of beaches and bays to explore. I love that I get to call it my home and I’m excited to share my favourite tips and places for you to Move, Nourish, Believe!

 

What To Pack

Make sure you pack Activewear that can transition from outdoor activities to casual café. While you’re out exploring you’ll find plenty of cafes to pop into for a caffeine fix, snack or to watch the world go by. 

 

There is so much to see and lots of opportunity to walk around, so pack comfortable clothes, layers to keep you warm in cooler seasons and some beach wear! Include your joggers so you can start the day with a morning run around the harbour or waterfront. 

 Bring your re-usable water bottle to keep you hydrated, a hat in warmer seasons and your sunnies.

 

And don’t forget your Opal card so you can get around easily!

 

Great Ways To Move

 

Start your morning on the move with a view on the iconic sands (or grass) of Bondi beach. Libby, Cassey and Sian run BUF Girls bootcamps daily between 6:30 – 8:15am (check the website here for details). BUF stands for Beautiful, Unstoppable and Fearless and the girls want to help every woman live their best life – how great is that philosophy!

You could also take a walk or jog along the Bondi to Coogee track, it winds along the coast and stops at numerous beaches along the way. It’s graded at a medium level and has a few hill climbs and plenty of stairs.

Or a little further north why not try out the Manly to Spit walk where you can find 1000yr old Aboriginal rock engravings.

If you find yourself a little further from the coast try the Bay Run, it’s a 7km circuit around the perimeter of Canada Bay and has plenty of café’s to start or finish your run. If you want some tunes for your run try my play list of 20 pop songs that will keep you feeling empowered!

 

Great Ways To Nourish

 

Your post bootcamp nutrition needs can be met by a visit to Bondi Wholefoods. Their food is organic, free of toxins and pesticides and GMO free. They are committed to providing food that will nourish you and support your health and longevity.

Further into the city you can find Bread and Circus Wholefoodsin Alexandria. Their menu is fresh and nutritious. You will find plenty of fresh vegetarian, vegan, gluten and dairy free options here.

Great Ways To Believe

 

Take a break for some ‘me’ time and head to the Royal Botanic Gardens. Taking time out to relax is so important as it will help reduce the effects of stress on your body. Take your time strolling through the flowers, pause and relax while you look out over the water. While you are there have a look in their shop and grab some raw, untreated organic honey from their bee hives!

The Chinese Garden of Friendship in Darling Harbour is another great area to escape the rush of the city, take some time to meditate and re-centre.

Now time for some culture and education! Head up the hill to The Art Gallery of NSW – it’s picturesque, it’s set on the border of the Royal Botanic Gardens, it’s huge and has collections that will keep you there for hours! And best of all it’s free!

On Saturdays and Sundays between 10am-4pm you can visit The Rocks Markets. There are local artists and gourmet street food and it’s all set on the beautiful cobblestone streets at the base of the Sydney Harbour Bridge. 

 

Getting Around

Make sure you have an Opal card! You will need it to get aboard Sydney’s train, bus and ferry services. The city circle line is great for getting around the inner city. If you want to get to Bondi Beach on public transport you will need to jump on a bus from Bondi Junction train station or even better, walk the 2.7km downhill to the sand.

A beautiful way to get from the city to the northern beaches and some of the bays around the harbour is on the iconic ferry service – this is well worth a trip! Try the route from Circular Quay to Manly Spit, take photos with a background of Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Opera House and enjoy the fresh sea air blowing through your hair!

 

So, now it’s your turn – get moving on the beaches, nourish your body at one of the amazing wholefood café’s available and take some ‘me time’ in some of the gardens. There are so many ways you can Move Nourish Believe in this city!
