Introducing one seriously special Sporty Sister of the Week. Ladies, meet Rachel MacDonald, the wonderful woman you might know as Rachel Magahy (congrats on the nuptials girl). We must admit, we’ve had a serious cyber crush on Rach as soon as we spied her delightful blog and were instantaneously entranced by her word wizardry and energetic spirit.

Yes, she’s got super glowy skin and a rockin’ bod to boot – but there’s so much more to this girl than what meets the eye. Rachel is a soul enriching coach, speaker and writer who walks the talk and makes time to embody Move Nourish Believe every single day…

This 9-5 career woman turned spirited entrepreneur is proof in the pudding that you can absolutely, positively create the life you desire. Always finding exciting new ways to care for her mind, body and spirit, she spends her days encouraging clients to embark on their own personal journey towards abundant living.

MNB: Hi there, welcome to our humble MNB! Tell us a little bit about you.

Hey there, I’m Rachel MacDonald! I’m a big-thinking, truth-seeking, exercise-loving life and blog coach, writer and speaker. Deep belly-laughs, soulful convos, road trips and plenty of time spent in nature is my kind of bliss.

I left the corporate world – where I’d been working my way up the ladder in PR and communications for 10 years – at the end of last year to follow my dream of becoming a coach, and I haven’t looked back since.

My heart-fuelled mission is to add more love to the world and I figure that best way to do that is by embracing adventure, following my curiosities and leaning into fear in my own life – and then sharing everything I learn with my tribe on In Spaces Between, on the stage and via my one-on-one sessions.

MNB: So, word in the blogosphere is you….

Have recently co-authored an eBook called Spirited: Soulful Lessons on Clarity, Connection + Coming Home (to You). This loved-up book has been landing in the hands of women all around the globe who are looking to rediscover who they (truly) are and transform their lives. The response so from our Spirited sistas has deeply touched me; I couldn’t be more grateful.

MNB: Have you always been passionate about active living? What was the ‘uh ha’ moment for you…

My parents put me in a range of different sports as a little one, and since then, exercise has always been a huge part of my life – however, I also spent most of my early twenties doing the gym-all-week-then-partying-hard-all-weekend tango.

Eventually, I got tired. Really tired. I was flat and exhausted by all the ‘pushing through’ and the running high on adrenaline, and when I couldn’t ignore my body’s call any longer, I started to intentionally – and lovingly – move towards the life I now live.

I’d been craving sustained energy, so I cleaned up my diet and really listened up to hear what my body needed to thrive. Out went caffeine and drinking every weekend and in came green juice and balanced meals.

I wanted more motivation to express myself creatively and tackle projects I’d been dreaming up (like my blog In Spaces Between), so I made a ‘commitment to clarity’ and devoted myself to daily early morning exercise. Starting the day out right has changed everything.

My biggest desire of all was to fall in love with my body and approach exercise and healthy living from a place of compassion rather than one of self-attack, so doing the inner work to shift my mindset has of course been a biggie. Beaming from the inside out is where it’s at.

So, rather than an ‘uh ha’ moment, it has been more of a gradual becoming for me. Without a doubt, my life changed irrevocably when I made a pact with my body to honour it as the beautiful, strong vessel it is.

MNB: What does a typical day of MNB’ing look like in your world?

I move my body every morning. I wake up by 5am without an alarm these days and my idea of heaven is a long run by the beach or a yoga-cardio fusion workout with the sun on my face.

I also love soft sand walks, sweating it up at a Pilates Barre class and doing hill sprints/ high intensity intervals with my husband.

Nourishment comes from listening to my body and feeding it awesome food daily – the delicious, satisfying, energy-giving stuff that leaves me feeling alert and alive. I’m also nourished on a deeper level through my meditation practice, the work I do with my gorgeous coaching clients, the people in my world and wisdom I consume (online and via the pages of a good book).

I believe in choosing love over fear, every day. In showing up and creating the kind of life that leaves us tingling. On trusting that all the answers we’re seeking are within, and all we need to do is sit with that deeper part of ourselves and listen up.

MNB: Okay, so if you had to choose…what would be your top 3 ‘can’t live without’ foods of all time!
  • Avocados. Because – avocado (no explanation needed, right?)
  • Cacao/ raw chocolate – to satisfy sweet cravings.
  • Fresh young coconuts – nothing better on a sunny summer’s day. Or any day, for that matter.
MNB: What does happiness look like to you?

Happiness is peace of mind. It’s expressing gratitude. Finding meaning. Deep fulfilment. Pleasure. The pure joy of being alive.  It’s self-discovery and self-acceptance, and alongside that, it’s also accepting that there will be challenges and frustrations, but I get to choose how I’ll react. That’s the exciting part.

When my happiness cup is filled from within, I’m far less likely to be swayed or rattled by the things going on outside of me (that are essentially out my control).

I find myself smiling in traffic, using my intuition instead of seeking external approval, being as generous as humanly possible and truly embracing presence.

MNB: What are your fave LJ pieces to move in?

Can I say all of them?! I’ve got a wardrobe packed with LJ goodies but my absolute faves would have to be my new neon crop (the best fit ever), the stunning floral crop and the ¾ leggings that fit like a glove.

MNB: What are some healthy snacks we could find stashed in your handbag?

Bliss balls packed with goodness, coconut water for hydrating and some kind of delicious nut/ seed mix.

MNB: If you were stranded on a deserted island, what would be the 3 things you would take?

My husband, my journal and a pen.

MNB: Best advice you have ever been given?

There will never be a perfect time – woven in with ‘leap and the net will appear.’

These have proven to be absolutely, 100% true in my life, and if I’m on the edge of a decision that will take me out of my comfort zone, I’ll often circle back to these wise words for a swift shot of courage.

MNB: Any tips or advice you could give to our readers just starting on their healthy, active journey?
