Let’s all give a warm welcome to yoga teacher Rachel Brathen, the very same bright spark who you might know as her Instagram alias Yoga_Girl. Our beachy sister Rachel began her active journey after packing her bags and travelling to Costa Rica. It was here she met and fell in love with yoga, and the feeling of joy that came from her daily practice.
Let’s be real, we’ve been avid fans of Rachel for quite some time. Her Instagram account never fails to amaze, offering daily yoga videos and inspiration both on and off the mat. Speaking of fearless, she was also one of the very FIRST people in the world to take on SUP yoga (Stand-up paddle board yoga), and teaches full time on the beautiful Caribbean island!
Rachel passion is to introduce people to the bliss of practicing yoga, providing every student with a space to safely play in the art of yoga on both land and water. We took 5 with Rachel to chat all things MNB and learn more about how she creates her blissful way of life.
MNB: Hi there, welcome to our humble MNB! Tell us a little bit about yourself. What’s your story?
My name is Rachel, I’m 25 years old and I teach yoga for a living. I travel internationally; leading workshops and retreats; I have four dogs, I love to cook, and I’m engaged to my best friend in the world smile
MNB: So, word in the blogosphere is you …
Post yoga pictures of myself on Instagram every day? Haha.
MNB: Have you always been passionate about Active Living? What was the ‘uh ha’ moment for you…
Not always. I have scoliosis and grew up with a lot of back pain. Yoga helped me cope with that, and eventually even healed my back. It’s now the center of my day!
MNB: What does a typical day of MNB’ing look like in your world?
Wake up before sunrise, drink lemon water, cuddle with my puppies, practice yoga outside, meditate with my mala, and drink a green smoothie. Go to the beach, swim, walk the dogs, surf, breathe, smile.
MNB: Okay, so if you had to choose…what would be your top 3 ‘can’t live without’ foods of all time!
Chocolate in all forms. Avocado. PASTA!
MNB: What does happiness look like to you?
Being comfortable in your own skin. Loving yourself the way you are no matter what, every day.
MNB: What are some healthy snacks we could find stashed in your handbag?
Raw bars, almonds and fruits. I always have a giant bottle of water with me, too.
MNB: If you were stranded on a deserted island, what would be the 3 things you would take?
Not including people and/or dogs? Sunscreen, hair ties (my hair is long and messy and gets on my nerves…) and h20.
MNB: Any tips or advice you could give to our readers just starting on their healthy, active journey?
MNB: Best advice you have ever been given?
What other people think about me is none of my business.
MNB: Any Move, Nourish or Believe tips before we part?
Wow, our chat with Rachel has us really inspired to hire a board this weekend and get into SUP Yoga. How about you?
