Adopted at birth into a beach loving family with the last name Beachley and became a 7 time World Champion surfer. Started surfing when I was 4, joined the professional surfing tour when I was 17, won my first world title when I was 26, my 7th world title at 34 and retired at 36. I have my own charity called the Aim For The Stars foundation, providing financial and mentoring support for women across Australia to achieve their dreams, am a motivational speaker and Chair of Surfing Australia. I still love to surf every day!
Through it all, what was the hardest thing you’ve had to overcome? Self doubt
What was the pinnacle moment that turned you into a true believer?
Winning my first World Championship Tour event in 1993- the Diet Coke Women’s Classic at Narrabeen.
What’s the greatest lesson you’ve learnt?
Always keep it real by staying true to yourself.
If you could go back and tell yourself something, what would you say?
Success doesn’t have to be hard.
Would you do anything differently?
Yes, I would listen more, always trust my instincts and be kinder to myself and others.
What do you hope people can learn or gain from hearing your story?
What the mind can conceive, the body can achieve, you must believe. And never give up on your dreams for they never give up on you.
