We get so caught up in the menial energy of our days, weeks, years that we often forget that we are the craftsmen of our own existence. We already have the tools we need to be living the life we deserve. They’re called choices. Sure there are confronting, challenging, destructive moments; this is the reality of being alive, and for some the only choice in what’s before them is survival; but when we choose the path that believes, the path that nourishes and the path that loves, the life that is waiting to bloom becomes a garden of endless possibilities. A garden that will naturally continue to move through the seasons but still a garden that will flower when we choose to water it with the best that we can.
But how do we do it? How do we see through the overwhelm, feel through the pain, move through the stress? It’s certainly easier said than done, and we’ve all been there at some point in our lives. That place where our whole being feels so out of balance that to choose strength takes strength, strength that seems impossible to find.
We are so grateful to have stumbled across Nicky Done (aka ‘Holistic Healing’ as she’s known to her 20K followers on Instagram) and her dreamy, raw and real words for Monday Motivation this week. Indeed our lives are much like a garden, and we we are all accountable for the quality of soil that will dictate how well they will flower. But sometimes we just need a little assistance, a teeny preview and someone who’s been through the whole journey, to show us how exactly to bloom bright.
We’re all unique and what works for one won’t necessarily be the answer for the next but if we can dive into our hearts and connect wholly to ourselves, we begin to gather tools for our own gardens, breathing life into them and enabling them to grow. And given that we are in the season of new life, of new blooms, of new opportunities what better way to celebrate Spring than with gifting ourselves with some gardening tools….
Find your safe space
Whatever this looks like for you. Maybe it’s sitting on the beach. Walking through the mountains. Lying on your back lawn. Playing with your pooch. Sipping on a cup of tea. Moving your body through a yin Yoga class. Meditating with the sunrise. It’s a place that you feel comforted in, a place that is just for you and a place where you’re able to let go. When we find a gentle daily ritual, even in its most basic form, our nervous system is able to switch down from the flight and fight mode that it’s usually set to. Even if this moment is only fleeting it helps us to move from the crazy in our heads landing us back in our bodies where we need to be to feel whole. Sure, it can feel raw to have to land back in there, afterall that is where our heart is, but the more often we’re able to do this the more strength we’re able to find and little shifts start to take place.
Choose your thoughts
We hear it all the time but we really are what we think. The mind is such an incredible tool and as humans it can be our greatest gift as well as our oldest nemesis. It has the power to infuse whatever we’re thinking into our whole being. If our conscious thoughts are fuelled with abrupt jerkiness, self loathe, bitter stress or negative ‘why me’s’, then that’s the way our energy plays out and that’s the way our lives flow. Of course it’s natural to have these thoughts when things are tough, we do the best we can, but if we can start to live with a little more awareness, a little more gentleness, a little more mindfulness, real consciousness surfaces and empowerment follows.
Honour the small things
To become grateful for life’s simplest pleasures is one of the most incredible ways to welcome further blessings into our lives. I remember a key turning point in my health battle where I was so far in the dark that I had no idea how the light was ever going to find me again. That was, until I was sitting on my parent’s lawn eating the sweetest juiciest pear I’ve ever experienced. I can still taste it now. There were pears before that pear but I’d never noticed them. In that moment I was full of love for that pear. Full of love for its offering. And full of love for its purity. I was energetically connected and in blissful awe. That raw moment embraced me and the light gradually started to trickle back in.
Feel your heart and nourish your truth
Toxicity in our lives is our greatest limitation to the full fruits of our garden of endless possibilities. And toxicity comes in all shapes and sizes. From the thoughts we have, to the energy we breathe, to the fuel we absorb. Our movement, our diets, our relationships, our self-love. We are a package deal. If one is out of balance then the rest are not far behind. We need to dive into our hearts to really feel who we are. To explore and connect with our inner beauty. Without this we are stuck. Energy will not flow and we continue to not serve ourselves as best as we could. We don’t need to be in the midst of aching devastation for our lives to be out of balance. Our bodies talk to us everyday but until we choose to listen we can never really feel and nourish ourselves.
Choosing to listen and choosing to let go of toxicity is key to a garden that is in full spring. We ground ourselves and our lives begin to flower…
