MNB: Hi there, welcome to our humble MNB! Tell us a little bit about yourself. What’s your story?
Well, my name is Tanja Djelevic. I currently reside in Los Angeles. I was born in Sweden and am of Serbian decent I work as a Health Coach, Group Fitness Teacher and Personal Trainer. I’m ecstatic that I get to do what I’m the most passionate about – helping people improve their lives through fitness and nutrition! My journey to get here was not very always easy, but it is amazing what happens with a little perseverance and lots of passion. My career has afforded me many exciting opportunities, including becoming the trainer for the Biggest Loser, Sweden!
MNB: Have you always been passionate about active living? What was the ‘uh ha’ moment for you…
I have always been passionate about movement. As a very little girl I danced jazz on stage and competed in Eastern Block folkloric dance (it’s true, I ain’t lying!), I also competed in track and field, and progressed to teaching a variety of fitness classes in Sweden. My “uh ha” moment came when participants in my classes continually approached me to express how amazing they felt and that my class was the highlight of their week. I realized I was having fun and transforming lives in the process. That fueled my quest and I continued my journey, which took me to Los Angeles – the mecca of fitness!!
MNB: What does a typical day of MNB’ing look like in your world?
Move: I love to run!! Also I use tools like TRX and Sand bells in my routine daily.
Nourish: My favorite meals are anything with cabbage and Brussels sprouts! SO GOOD!
Believing: I believe acts of kindness, and serving others is necessary for my own happiness. And, learning self-love in situations when we feel we deserve it the least, is a hard but good practice.
MNB: Okay, so if you had to choose…what would be your top 3 ‘can’t live without’ foods of all time!
Oooohhhhhhh, I can’t live without Brussels sprouts or cabbage (seriously!!). And, I love sushi and cheese (Not together, of course!!!).
MNB: What does happiness look like to you?
Feeling strong and healthy, having a good time with friends and family, and being aware and present enough to feel gratitude. Gratitude is always in the forefront of my mind. I remind myself often to be grateful for all the good I have. Happiness for me is not about having everything you want and always being in a good mood, but rather, to accept all of life’s ups and downs. To experience all of it fully makes me happy to have this life!!
MNB: What are some healthy snacks we could find stashed in your handbag?
Nuts, and occasionally, a protein bar (but very seldom). I like watermelon and pineapple, too!
MNB: If you were stranded on a deserted island, what would be the 3 things you would take?
Hahaha well, hmmm, my iPad, its full of books, a sharp knife for practical things like carving, building and protection, and a lighter.
MNB: Best advice you have ever been given?
I love this!!! It’s strong, feminine and full of love.
And I also love… “Never be shy with telling people how you feel about them!! People want to been seen and touched. Touch them and see them!” It’s so true!
MNB: Any tips or advice you could give to our readers just starting on their healthy, active journey?
A great place to start is finding something active that is fun, makes you feel good and is a “pulling” motivator (something that pulls you in rather than them having to chase it). Also, making small, incremental changes rather than tackling everything at once is the only sustainable way to get and stay healthy. I believe anything you want for yourself, in realistic terms (meaning you cant grow physical wings and fly) is POSSIBLE!!!!! There is always a way, but it has to be discovered and staked out!! And THAT, in itself is the fun part.
MNB: Any Move, Nourish or Believe tips before we part?
Health is really wealth. When you feel good, everything else is possible!! And it’s important to actually live fully. It has taken me many years to figure out what actually makes ME happy, and now I try to seize the day and do a little bit of it every single day. For me that is travel and gratitude. So, I try to remember to be grateful everyday, and I plan a trip every year and save a little money make it a reality!! My words to live by are, Live Life Loud: which simply means – Figure out what makes YOU happy, and do it PASSIONATELY!!!
PS. Here’s a link to my exclusive guided meditation for MNB readers, give it a try!
Sigh. I don’t know about you, but we are feeling a whole lot more content and connected to our fitness intentions after our chat with the inspiring Tanya. And we certainly can’t wait for a trip to the US so we can meet her in the flesh for one of her famous classes!
