The start of a new year often brings with it a hefty dose of motivation, renewed clarity and a sense of enthusiasm for “what lies ahead.”
We’re excited to make changes.
We’re ready to play bigger.
The thing is – the real work isn’t in setting the goals, it’s in working towards your achievement continuously.
Read on below for some tips to help you shine in 2013…
Amp your energy.
Listen to that beautiful body of yours and commit to eating intuitively, focusing on nourishing foods that leave you feeling satisfied and full of beans. Subtle tweaks (with big results) might involve kicking off a personal green juice challenge, adding spinach and coconut water to your smoothies, or whipping up a homemade Acai bowl to chow down on after exercise. Tune in and see what your body really wants you to know.
When it comes to sweating it out, infra red saunas work wonders for releasing sluggy toxins with the bonus of gaining luminous skin in the process. We all know that moving daily means more vibrant energy but give yourself permission to exercise in a way that makes YOU feel good this year. The right exercise is the type that works wonderfully for your body.
Become a peace-seeker.
Calming our minds when we’re immersed in ‘hyper busy-ness’ can seem like an intimidating, almost impossible task; but the reality is, the times when we’re living at full-tilt are the times we need to find our peaceful centre most. This is where meditation comes in. If you’re a meditation newbie, start out small with 5 minutes in a quiet, comfortable place, bringing it back to your breath and slowing everything down. The aim isn’t to clear your mind completely of thoughts but to relax with them as they are.
Need an anchor for that swirl of mental chatter? Try visualising a colour or word or sensation flowing through your body. I’ll warn you though – it’s highly likely that once you get into the swing of this stillness business, you’ll experience increased clarity, a flood of gratitude and perpetual good vibes. Get ready!
Nourish your adrenals.
The adrenal glands sit at the top of the kidneys and are clever little critters, helping with thyroid function, balancing our hormones, weight and mood management (and much more). Stress wreaks havoc on the adrenal glands, but so does drinking too much coffee and loading up on refined sugars and processed junk. So why don’t you cut a handshake deal with your adrenals this year and swap coffee for green tea and stress for self-care? I promise you’ll feel amazing for it.
Ask for help.
Do you have a list of exquisite dreams that you want to lasso this year but have no idea how and where to start? What about perfectionism, fear of failure and procrastination – do they keep you from living brilliantly and authentically in your ‘Zone of Genius?’ I get it and want you to know that you don’t have to go it alone. Hire a coach to support you on your journey, keep you accountable and fire you up for even more. Team up with a training buddy to achieve your fitness goals. Join a club or wrangle a power posse. Successful people have a network of allies, helpers and cheerleaders. It’s time to assemble your crew.
Give it all you’ve got.
Commit to this: 2013 is the year that I align my goals and intentions with sustained, positive action.
Our intentions create our realities. Stepping up may mean saying no to something so you can say yes to the even deeper call to your greatness. It might mean carving out more creative space in your life, befriending your inner critic, structuring your days differently or wholeheartedly pursuing your passions. It will probably mean all of those things.
You are 100% in control of your destiny so take your health and happiness into your own hands in 2013 and make this the year that you TRULY live that big, beautiful life of yours!
