Today there are many amazing scientific breakthroughs and findings in what is now a billion dollar wellness industry. On top of school drop offs, grocery shopping, work, social commitments – (to name a few!) we’re constantly reminded that there is now a laundry list of wellness maintenance that we’re supposed to add to our plate.
Every month we are introduced to new fat blasting, free range, wrinkle smoothing, gluten free ideas that set a new standard of the word ‘wellness.’ I’ve been a yoga teacher for 11 years and an avid spa visitor since I was old enough to save my allowance. Even still, from my own personal experience (and I do love trying new products and treatments) I simply do not have the time or money to keep up with every fad that is splashed across instagram, tempting me with it’s gorgeous bohemian beach scenery.
So today I’m going to give you – for free – the two things I do every day to feel and look awake and present.
The Only 2 Beauty Tips You Need This Summer: Mediation + Moisture.
Meditate
I know, I know… people you’ve met once even tell you to meditate. BUT… It’s actually very simple, and it only takes me five minutes. The benefits are incredible. For example;
- Not only do you feel less stressed and more positive, but physically your face will appear more relaxed.
- You experience focus and awareness throughout your day.
- After about 2 weeks of 5 minutes a day you will no longer feel that lagging tiredness around 4pm.
This is a simple technique that brings awareness by focusing on your breathing:
- Sit comfortably on a blanket in a quiet place with the lights low or off.
- Close your eyes.
- Picture your breath as a fog flowing in and out of your nose.
- Now picture this fog flowing in and out of the chest. Then the belly.
- As you inhale your inner mind says “I slowly breath in.” As you exhale “I slowly breath out”.
- Once you have a slow rhythm to your breath tell each muscle in your face to soften, melt and relax.
- Tell your shoulders to drop.
Try this for a couple of minutes once or twice a day for two weeks and then tell me how you feel!
Moisturise.
Two of the best beauty tips I have ever been given is for eyelashes and skin. Head to your local shopping centre and pick up a bottle of liquid coconut oil and caster oil from the chemist.
EYES
Every night rub a little bit of caster oil on your eyelashes and eyebrows and fine in the morning with warm water. Caster oil helps grow and strengthen the hair, keeps it moisturised, and a $15 bottle will last you all year.
BODY
In the morning shower as per usual, and just before you get out pour a small amount of coconut oil in your palm and rub over the entire body for 30 seconds while your re still wet. You only need a little, your skin will absorb it quickly. Towel off and continue to get ready. It’s a great option for summer because it’s light and leaves a glorious finish. A $10 bottle of liquid coconut oil should last at least 6 months. Just be careful not to break it in the shower, as most are glass bottles.
SUNSCREEN
Don’t leave home without your sunscreen, especially during the summer. Sunscreen is a non-negotiable when it comes to skincare and should be a part of your daily routine. For your face, choose a sunscreen that’s made to be used on your face so it’s more sensitive and nourishing for your skin. You can also get hand creams that include SPF protection (like this range from Enbacci) which is important because our hands are exposed to a lot of environmental factors including UV rays. Being one of the key areas to show signs of sun damage and dehydration, don’t forget to moisturise and protect your hands with a sun safe moisturiser.
Simple right! By meditating daily and looking after your skin, you’ll look and feel positive, reinvigorated and ready for an amazing summer!
