21 Things MNB Girls Say

When you’re a true Move Nourish Believe (MNB) girl you will constantly catch yourself saying things, that to you are completely normal, but to others may be a little odd; a foreign language of some sorts.

Everyday MNB girls tend to have a signature lingo of their own. And what better place to bear witness to some seriously hilarious hallway chatter each and every day, than here at Lorna Jane.

This post has been a long time coming. After months of secretly documenting things MNB girls say around the office, we are now ready to launch it to the masses. We ain’t afraid to poke a lil’ fun at ourselves and make a joke at this incredibly amazing Active Living culture. Because dear friends, this is us, an insight into the wonderful world of MNB: a healthy haven of all things green juicing, smoothie blending, yoga matt unrolling and affirmation chanting.

We have no doubt you will find yourself doing a little (maybe a lot) of head nodding, grinning and giggling and ‘OH EM GEE-ing’ at the thought of yourself saying these things too. It’s ok, we get it, us MNB girls need to stick together.

This is the stupidest thing i have read!! Your MNB rubbish is garbage. Get over yourselves girls, just eat normal food in smaller amounts and cut the BS and just EXERCISE! Stop the fluffing around and just get on with it. LJ gear doesn’t make you do better workouts, its all in your head, the marketing has brainwashed you.

    1. Ally on said:

Hey CHamilton :) I have to respectfully disagree! While I’m sure the lifestyle you described (eating ‘normal food’ in smaller portions, merely exercising etc) is 100% effective and AWESOME for some including yourself, it’s just one example of a healthy lifestyle. There is no one perfect or absolute way someone should be, which is great because we’re all so different! For many, myself included, nourishing our mind, body and soul, believing in ourself everyday in addition to moving and keeping active, helps us keep healthy, happy and the feeling the best that we possibly can. If wearing bright, fun, comfortable clothing makes us feel even more confident – all the more reason! LJ isn’t about brainwashing, but rather a slightly different approach – INSPIRING. Kale bouquets might be a joke (to most, at least), but I know many couples who love to work out together, some even met at the gym! Even when working out solo, that may be seen as ‘me time’, essentially a date with one’s self. You say that if we ceased these activities we could ‘have a relationship with a man’, but try to remember that while that may be your goal, it doesn’t mean it’s everyone else’s too. Some may be on a path of self discovery. Some may not be attracted to men. Some may not desire to be in a relationship at all. The best thing about LJ is that it’s about embracing individuality, not ‘fluffing around’, ‘BS’ or brainwashing. If women feel empowered by the MNB movement to love themselves inside and out, strive to reach their greatest potential and support others – who is it harming?

MNB girls I have to add another quote – “post-yoga acai bowl”. Enough said.

Well said Ally … I’m 48 years old .. by reading and having support with LJ Sisters I have lost 20kg and at 56kg I have never been healthier and fitter in my life ! I frequently exercise with my man .. he is a cyclist so we ride together and with groups …. He always tells me how proud he is and often surprises me with treats from LJ ( Inspirational tees that I love)
If LJ is reading this … my man wants an LJ Male equivalent clothing store please !!!!!

        Thanks for your positive words!
P.S We are so with you on the Acai post-yoga front!
Perhaps that could be part 2 haha

Seriously, kale bouquets at your wedding, talking about gym sessions like they are dates?! Maybe if you were just normal and down to earth you would be happier because you could actually enjoying all the good things in life and have a relationship with a man….not your stupid health foods which are all fads and marketing campaigns

      Hi Gen,

Oh yes, our hunger always seems to dial up a notch right before a team meeting.. It doesn’t help that most of our MNB discussions revolve around food and recipes! Eeek! Glad you can relate to the feeling.

Well I got a giggle out of it! And i have said oh no my grocer has no kale today! I also have to say I am a Mama of two girls under six and my body has changed a lot and i never made time for myself or time for being healthy and exercising. My point I am getting to is that I walked into my local Lorna Jane store bought some tights and loved the girls who served me with such kindness and no judgment of my body, I then found the website which I read almost daily now! I have Lorna’s books that i dip in and out of when I need to. Basically thanks to a bit of kindness from your girls who work in stores and reading your encouraging words here I am finding my way to an active life and it is wonderful. I have happier relationships and i am a happier and MORE fun Mum. So keep on doing what you do it has made this Mama a happier active woman. xx

    1. Leigh on said:

I forgot to mention through the Lorna Jane MNB philosophy I have lost 26 Kilograms and i am only five kilos away from my pre baby size and i have done it by not doing any crazy fad diets. Simply nourishing my body, moving daily and believing I can do it because my health is worth it. So big thank you for the inspiration.

      1. Profile photo of MNB TEAMMNB TEAM Post authoron said:

        Hi Leigh,

Wow. We are a little speechless after reading your story but one thing is certain – you are an incredible woman! Thank you for sharing your inspirational words with us, 26 kg is such an achievement. And better yet – we are so happy to hear that you did it the healthy way.

We couldn’t agree more, your health is number one (because if we don’t have our health what do we have). Stay healthy, we are so happy to have played a small part in your amazing journey. And enjoy those relationships and time with your kids – you are setting such a great example for them!

Love your work fitness Sisters !!
I absolutely , completely understand the “foreign language “. Haha :)
I could not image life without my yoga sessions or positive affirmations in the morning, it is like breathing in air. It just comes naturally to me.

I get sooo excited in the mornings when I am making my pear and walnut salad for work or having my green “power drink” for morning tea.

I know there are people in this world who judge, make mean comments in regards to our healthy way of life. They are just words and they cannot hurt you , only if you allow them to. “MAKE EVERYDAY COUNT and APPREICATE THE PEOPLE WHO THINK LIKE YOU’ this special people will help you get through the tough times ahead.

    Keep up the great work.

    lov , god bless
from another health, gym / fitness junkie
P.S I love the one about the kale in the wedding bouquet , if you get hungry you can always start eating it. haha :)

      Hi Teressa,

Did you just say pear and walnut salad? It’s our all-time favourite!! We’re so glad you speak our lingo… and we agree totally about making every day count by spending time with likeminded souls.

Hehe yes! We can’t forget our greens – even during a wedding ceremony ;)

Keep well our lovely fellow fitness junkie… Blend your vegetable power drinks with pride!

I love kale flowers!! My mum and I sell them at my little brother’s school fete every year and they always sell out!

    1. Profile photo of MNB TEAMMNB TEAM Post authoron said:

      Hi Sophie,

Do you grow the kale yourself? If so, we need to talk! Hehe our kale obsession is getting a bit out of hand – we really want to start planting our own. Kale flowers on hand 24/7… yes please!

I love the inspiration you give, everything you publish means something different to each person, making it personal. I love that you are offering choices, on food, on exercise, on style. I’ve really feel like I’m slipping into my Superwoman suit every time I put on a LJ outfit. It gives me strength and confidence to do what I have to do for me. Something I said the other day which produced a “what planet are you from look” was “I just got the same buzz out of drinking my green smoothie that I get from a great workout” … Surely that means its love?
Thanks for all you do MNB team, I certainly appreciate it (so does my body)

    1. Profile photo of MNB TEAMMNB TEAM Post authoron said:

      Hi Susie,

Oh yes, that’s love! And we know exactly the green smoothie buzz you’re talking about… Ahh, so refreshing and energising. We’re really glad you feel like a superwoman in your LJ, keep up the amazing work!

Loved it! If you don’t have anything nice to say you probably haven’t been move nourish believing enough !

  11. Andie on said:

Haha, I can relate to all! Seems this is an alternative lifestyle, as more and more women are realising the “normal” life isn’t so normal, and neither are concepts like moderation- instead, we live life to the full and are extreme about moving, nourishing and believing…. LJ has really just provided a community for those like- minded women to get together- and you have helped sooooo many women achieve what they thought was impossible (I have a lot of examples among friends and acquaintances).

Anyway, my favourite thing I say is when I’m asked the question, “Do you have any antiinflammatories [tablets]?” … and my first response is, “Why yes! I have blueberries, ginger, turmeric, a bit of pumpkin, some leafy greens….” ;) ;) xxx

    1. Profile photo of MNB TEAMMNB TEAM Post authoron said:

      Hi Andie,

Oh we LOVE your response! What better way to heal than natural remedies?! Ginger, lemon and honey tea is our particular favourite for scratchy throats. Turmeric is always great too ;)

Thank you for your kind words, you’re exactly right! We are all about creating a community for women to discuss and share what works for them, plus inspire each other to keep going on their own active journey. We are so happy to hear that your friends are believing in the impossible every day (it just might have something to do with your positive influence in their lives). Go girl!

At C Hamilton .. You must be getting something out of this LJ page if you are taking time to frequently write negative comments … Yes anyone can diet and exercise but at LJ it’s about the support and encouragement that we all give each other .. If I can make a suggestion … Stay positive move nourish and believe and it will improve your health and outlook on life :)

      Hi Angela,

I honestly don’t know why someone could write such negative comments on something that more brands should promote; health, balanced lifestyles, outdoor activities, friendship, sisterhood, happiness and more! Not everyone is going to go all out on the MNB lifestyle, but everyone needs good mentors and positive motivations in this life.

Some quotes are a bit corny and OTT but it’s for a laugh ladies :)

      Hi there,

Thank you for the kind words, we love your perspective on the MNB lifestyle!

Oh yes, some of our quotes are so silly but we wrote them with tongue firmly in cheek. Glad you can look on the bright side :)

I stumbled across a Lorna Jane shop recently whilst in Australia on business. I love love loved it and spent over an hour trying on cloths while hubby waited outside, venturing in from time to time to check on me. I then found the web site and mve norish believe site. I have no worst 5kg and move, norish believe everyday. This really has changed my life. I recently found a lump in my breast but faced the whole situation positively and really surprised myself. It turned out fine, but because I felt soo good I could handle that situation. Thank you Lorna Jane – you really do change people lives. Now hubby is seeing the results and wanting to eat clean and exercise too. Great!

      Hi Toni,
Thanks so much for taking the time to comment and share your personal LJ story.
It’s so amazing to see women embrace this way of life, and begin to see that believe is one of the strongest qualities we can have.
When you believe you can do anything. It makes you want to eat better, move further and love yourself more.
We are so glad to hear you have the all clear with the breast cancer scare. What a great revelation to know how strong you truly are.
      Thanks for loving MNB!

      Hi Hannah,

Oh no! We hope you’re finding a way to blend your smoothies without disturbing your housemates…

If you’re out of luck, we recently watched a food documentary (called Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead) where the presenter plugged his Vitamix into his car and blended his greens on the side of the road. Taking it too far? Hehe, perhaps.

Hope the nursing placement is going well for you despite the crazy hours!

Everyone’s entitled to their opinion and that’s what makes this country so great. But it’s common courtesy to do so in a respectful manner and it’s a pity that not everyone does that. To each their own I guess.

I personally can’t thank Lorna Clarkson, Active Living, Move Nourish Believe and the #MOVE615 Sporty Sisters enough for what they’ve done for me and my breast cancer recovery and rehabilitation. I personally believe whole heatedly in the company and all that it stands for.
