A Tribute To Our Sporty Sisters + Our Instagram Feature Girl

IG_bannerToday we are giving a massive shout out to our Lorna Jane girls. The sporty sisters that live, eat & breathe the MNB philosophy and who embrace Active Living each and every day. We are so inspired by our customers, so much so that we based out entire campaign ‘The Roadmap To Active Living’ on our chosen active advocates. WHY? Because you are the reason we exist! We adore reading your inspiring stories and avidly check #lornajane to see how you’re on the road to living your best life. This post is a tribute to our sporty sisters who love Lorna Jane and who move us on a daily basis. A big cyber high five to you ladies!

We wanted to take this tribute one step further and give a mega shout out to one of our favourite sporty sisters – Sam Lengren aka The_Healthy_Me. Sam’s personal Instagram account is not a Fitspo or Thinspiration account. It is merely a platform where Sam is keepin’ it real, inspiring her online community and sharing her journey on how she got to where she is today – through hard work, determination and consistency of course. We interviewed Sam to ask how she keeps motivated and on track, and essentially, how she goes about being the best, healthiest version of herself.

MNB: Hi Sam, welcome to our humble MNB! Tell us a little bit about yourself. What’s your story?

My name is Sam. I’m a happy and healthy 25 year old, I teach Year One and I love living in sunny Brisbane. I’m getting married to my high school sweetheart in September. I feel pretty lucky every day!

MNB: You appear to live, eat & breathe the Move Nourish Believe Philosophy! What does a typical day of MNBing look like for you?

I begin every day with a 45-minute walk or run at around 5:30am. I know lots of people who say “I can’t get up that early!”, but the sunrise is what motivates me! It is the most beautiful time of the day and when I most feel like myself. I start the day with a clear head and a beautiful view! From here I nourish my body…

 …My day of nourishing…
  • Breakfast: 1/2 cup oats, ½ cup of almond milk, 1 tbsp black chia seeds, 1 tbsp. LSA, 60g of blueberries and some cinnamon.
  • Morning Tea: Tuna, ryvitas and cottage cheese.
  • Lunch: Meat and vegetables.
  • Afternoon tea: Nuts and a banana to munch on before I do an afternoon workout.
  • Dinner: I nourish my body with fresh vegetables, some great carbs (brown rice, quinoa, corn or sweet potato) and some meat.

I generally do 4 strength/weights afternoon training sessions a week. My dinner is my recovery meal, rather than a protein shake. I nourish my body with fresh vegetables, some great carbs (brown rice, quinoa, corn or sweet potato) and some meat. My wonderful fiancé, family, friends and my trainer Nick Miller (@nickmillerpt) keep me believing in myself throughout each day.

MNB: So, you are clearly on the road to active living. How did your journey begin?

I’m an active MNBer! I wasn’t always like this though; I began a lifestyle change in April 2012. I wasn’t hugely overweight to begin with, but I just felt so unhealthy. I had tummy troubles and was diagnosed with reflux. I tried to out-exercise my bad diet with cardio, but I’ve since learnt that it doesn’t work that way. I now nourish my body with fresh, whole foods and live actively with lots of different workouts.

MNB: With life’s responsibilities how do you stay motivated and ensure you stay on track?

I stay motivated in a few ways. The beauty of the sunrise gets me out of bed (so does my dog who is always eager for a walk!).

I have a great little support group that keeps me active. My trainer @nickmillerpt, my 2 friends Mia and Nat who walk and workout with me all the time and my beautiful fiancé, Tom who would rather sleep in but will take me for a walk or come to bootcamp with me.

“Preparing my food keeps me on track. Fail to prepare = prepare to fail”…

IG_content_02Also progress and change that I see in myself keeps me motivated. I feel so proud and happy every day and that keeps me going. The way I feel keeps me motivated. I no longer have to take medicine for my reflux. With living actively and embracing fresh foods, my stomach has never felt better. Why would I stop now?

MNB: Your Instagram images are so inspiring! Tell us, what is the key to living your best, most beautiful, Active Life?

Keep going and don’t give up! Anyone can live a beautiful, active life. Change all your negative thoughts and be proud to have an “I can” attitude. Be happy with where you are right now and stop comparing yourself to others. I love to treat and talk to myself like I would to a friend. Be nice to yourself. It’s hard to be happy when someone’s mean to you all the time.

MNB: Any advice to anyone wishing to take on their own Active journey before we part?

I really do believe that anyone can live their best, most beautiful, Active Life. Small changes will make big differences. Progress is perfection.
